There are various things that can affect the drying time of paint. For example, if the room is not properly ventilated, if the air is too moist, or if the weather is not warm enough, you may need to let the paint dry extra days. Remember that the room should be properly ventilated during this time. Humidity. The more humid a room is, the longer paint will take to dry. Put simply, the moisture in the air inhibits the paint’s ability to stick. If you live in a high-humidity area, consider getting a dehumidifier to reduce humidity to 50 percent or less.
I recommend placing a dehumidifier in each room, to maintain a humidity level below 50%. If you check the weather, you will find that last week and this week the humidity has been in the 90% range. The normal average humidity in Alabama is 71%, as you can see it is way above average at this time. During the summer, research has indicated that the relative humidity level should be no more than 60%, ideally between 30-50%. It is important to note these levels are based on an indoor temperature between 68-75F for the summer. The 30-50% is the recommendation for a healthy home, and the 50% below is the recommendation for the ability of paint to dry properly.
